This magnificent five bedroom detached period residence exhibits elegant historic architecture with a modern feel

Situated in over an acre of gorgeous gardens and grounds in a private oasis of tranquility, Glencairn is a magnificent five bedroom detached Grade II listed period home of elegant traditional style, historic architecture and sympathetic contemporary refurbishment. This striking granite built property dates back to circa 1850 and demonstrates all the appealing characteristics you would expect from a property of this age, namely high ceilings, large rooms, tall windows, original coving and open fireplaces. Glencairn sits privately and discretely within its own grounds on the edge of the former market town of St Columb, just 6 miles from the revered coastal hotspots of Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay, 11 miles from the historic and picturesque fishing village of Padstow and, conveniently, 4 miles from Newquay airport.

The stunning handmade Samuel Walsh kitchen is the heart of this magnificent period property. The elegant traditional style of the bespoke cabinetwork reflects the historic architecture of the house whist the premium brand appliances and contemporary fittings give it a truly modern feel. The kitchen features an Emerald Pearl granite work surface with the soft close cabinets finished in Farrow and Ball Elephants Breath. Dual zone underfloor heating underfoot warms the room evenly with the focal point a contemporary wood burning stove. Least we forget the separate and spacious utility/boot room. The two principal imposing reception rooms are impressive, both with huge bay windows complete with original shutters and open marble fireplaces and a vista over the gardens. Positioned between them is a useful office/study with built in shelving and home to the gas fired boiler.

Heading up the grand turned staircase to the hugely light and impressive first floor landing, you will find five double bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms have sizable en-suite bathrooms, four of the bedrooms have feature fireplaces and all five have integral wardrobes/cupboards. Additionally, there is a stylish family shower room and a second staircase descending to the ground floor and even a fantastic wine cellar!

Across the courtyard is the large detached garage with up and over door and separate office to the side. Beyond the courtyard is an enclosed walled garden, beautifully kept with planted and well stocked borders, lawn, greenhouse and small outbuilding. To the front of Glencairn, patio extends along the width of the property to a larger area of patio outside of the kitchen French doors. Granite steps lead down to a large expanse of luscious lawn enclosed and bordered by tall mature trees and establish shrubs. To one side is a granite orangery with slate roof and two storage sheds, one timber and one metal, as well as a refurbished Victorian Greenhouse. Wrought iron gates announce the entrance to Glencairn which affords a stately first impression – a long gravelled driveway leads down to the property with ample parking to the side. Please note there is vehicular and pedestrian right of way to Glencairn Coach House which is located halfway down the driveway. All in all, the gardens and grounds constitute over an acre. Services to the property include mains water, electricity, gas and drainage.

Glencairn’s locality allows for peaceful living in an edge of town setting yet is within easy reach of main transport links via the A39 and Newquay Airport which are just minutes away. As such, we at Jackie Stanley highly recommend an internal viewing at the earliest opportunity to fully appreciate the enchanting characteristics of this historic property.

The favoured town of St Columb is an old market town and was the historic banking capital of North Cornwall. The Bishops Palace, built in the 17th Century, is still in existence. This vibrant Cornish town offers a comprehensive range of amenities including two butchers, a Co-Op, a post office, a chemist, library, antique shop, tea rooms, public houses, a hairdressers and barbers, a large hardware store and a variety of other small shops. The town lies approximately 6 miles inland of the revered coastal hotspot of Mawgan Porth with its stunning sandy beach and the multi award winning Bedruthan Hotel and spa. Within 11 miles is the historic and picturesque fishing village of Padstow which offers an extensive range of cafes, public houses and restaurants, none more so than Paul Ainsworth’s Michelin starred No.6 and of course Rick Steins esteemed Seafood restaurant. Glencairn is a great base from which to explore the surrounding coastline and within easy motoring distance are the beautiful beaches of Harlyn Bay, Trevone Bay, Constantine Bay and Treyarnon all offering access to the south west coast path. The nearest mainline station is Bodmin Parkway which is approximately 16 miles distant with the nearest airport at Newquay just 4 miles away with internal and international flights.
